This article is part of our guide Smart TV Streaming Explained: Built-In Apps vs. Streaming Sticks.

Watching IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV comes down to one key step: finding a player in Samsung's own app store that supports your login type. Samsung TVs run Tizen and cannot install apps from other sources, so this guide focuses on choosing the right app, logging in and the Samsung settings that keep playback smooth. Have an LG TV instead? See IPTV on LG webOS TVs.

This guide covers the Samsung-specific details. For the general steps that apply to every Smart TV, see the Smart TV setup guide.

Before you start

  • Your Samsung TV is connected to the internet (Ethernet is recommended).
  • You are signed in to a Samsung account on the TV, if the app store asks for one.
  • You have your access details: an M3U URL or an Xtream Codes login.

Step 1: Update the TV software

Open Settings → Support → Software Update and install any available update. Menu names can vary slightly between model years. An up-to-date TV is less likely to have app store or playback problems.

Step 2: Find a player in the app store

  1. Press the Home button and open Apps.
  2. Use the search icon and search for "IPTV" or "M3U".
  3. Open a player's page and check that it supports M3U playlists, Xtream Codes, or both.
  4. Check recent reviews and when the app was last updated, then install it.

App availability depends on your TV's model year and country. If you cannot find a suitable player, read what to do when an app is not available.

Step 3: Add your subscription

Players on Samsung TVs handle logins in one of two ways:

  • Directly on the TV. You type or paste your details into the app using the remote.
  • Through the developer's website. The app shows a device ID or MAC address, and you add your playlist on the developer's website. The TV then downloads it.

Follow whichever method your chosen player uses. With either method, enter details exactly as provided, with no extra spaces.

Step 4: Test and fine-tune

  1. Let the channel list load completely. Large lists can take a minute the first time.
  2. Test several channels in different categories.
  3. If you received an EPG URL, add it in the player settings. See how to add an EPG URL.
  4. Mark channels you watch often as favourites.

Samsung-specific tips

Restart the TV fully

Pressing the power button usually puts a Samsung TV into standby rather than switching it off. If apps behave strangely, unplug the TV for about 30 seconds to clear its memory.

Clear the app cache

Many Samsung models let you clear an app's cache from the app settings (Settings → Support → Device Care → Manage Storage on recent models). This can help if a player becomes slow or stops loading its list.

Check picture settings

Streamed content often looks better in Movie or Filmmaker mode than in brighter "Dynamic" presets. Our guide to improving picture quality explains why.

Review privacy settings

Samsung TVs include options for viewing information services and interest-based advertising. You can switch these off without affecting your apps; see Smart TV privacy settings.

Mind the activation fees

Some players offer a trial period and then ask for a one-time or yearly activation fee paid to the app developer. That is separate from your Pure IPTV Abo subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install apps from outside the Samsung app store?

Not on standard consumer Samsung TVs. Apps have to come from Samsung's store. If the player you want is not there, a streaming stick is the easiest alternative.

Which Samsung TVs can run IPTV players?

Most Samsung Smart TVs from recent years can, but which players are available depends on the model year and region. Check the store on your TV for players that support M3U or Xtream Codes.

Why does my Samsung TV say the app is not supported?

Some apps only support newer Tizen versions. Update the TV software; if the app still is not supported, try a different player or a streaming stick.

Samsung setup at a glance

On a Samsung TV, update the software, find an M3U- or Xtream-compatible player in the built-in store, add your details and test a few channels. If the store lacks a suitable player, a streaming stick is a quick fix. For the bigger picture, see Smart TV streaming explained.
